Copal

The Copalera is a traditional vessel used to burn copal, an aromatic resin from various trees in Central America and Mexico, such as white copal or gold copal. This ceramic vessel is used to hold and burn copal during ceremonies, rituals, and spiritual practices.

Historically, copal has been fundamental in various pre-Columbian Mesoamerican cultures, such as the Aztec and Maya, where it was used in religious ceremonies and as an offering to the gods. It was believed that the smoke of copal purified the environment, warded off negative energies, and facilitated communication with the divine.
