The White Sage, also known as Salvia apiana, is a sacred plant traditionally used by indigenous cultures of North America, especially by Native Americans. This aromatic plant has been employed in spiritual ceremonies and purification rituals for centuries.
Historically, white sage has been burned as an incense stick, in what is known as "smudging", a process in which its dried leaves are lit and used to cleanse negative energies, purify the environment and people, as well as to attract mental clarity and spiritual harmony.
The practice of "smudging" with white sage continues to be relevant today, not only in native communities, but also in wellness and spirituality practices worldwide. Its aromatic properties and its association with energetic cleansing have made white sage valued as a tool for relaxation, meditation, and spiritual connection.
Aroma: distinctive and potent; Its leaves release an earthy, slightly sweet and herbaceous scent. When burned as incense, it releases an aromatic smoke that has earthy, fresh notes and is sometimes described as a calming and comforting fragrance. Many people find its aroma comforting and associated with cleansing and purification.
Usage ideas:
- Take one end of the bundle and light the leaves with a lighter or match. Let it burn for a few seconds until a small flame forms. Gently blow out the flame. Let the leaves continue to smolder to release smoke. Use the white sage smoke to purify the space or person. You can gently move the bundle in circles or wave it to spread the smoke. Once you are done, make sure to extinguish the embers completely. You can gently crush the leaves against a heat-resistant container or let them burn out naturally in a safe container.
